Raw Material Risk Assessment

Raw material risk assessment is among the most technically challenging areas for food manufacturers to effectively address. Raw material risk assessment

​​Each raw material approval profile records both your raw material code and that of your supplier, enabling you to validate that the physical material you receive from your supplier is properly associated with your risk assessment by referencing purchase orders and delivery notes.

Define manufacture sites

​​The risk assessment includes identification of manufacture sites. You can assign an indefinite number of manufacture sites to a single supply route – so if you are purchasing from an agent supplier and that agent is sourcing the traded good from 20 different manufacturers, you can identify the manufacture sites against the risk assessment for the supply route.

Composition

​For each item on the composition table, you can select whether it is a compound or component. If you select compound, subsequent items can be identified as sub-components by selecting the compound from a drop-down list. The system has been designed to be user-friendly and intuitive.

​Follow the ‘Component details’ link and each item can be risk-assessed based on geographical origin, additive identification and HARA parameters. There is also a free text area so any material parameter can be included.

​​Each raw material risk assessment is subject to document control and there are no minimum requirements for the progression of a revision of the risk assessment. This means when you begin using the system, you can populate the risk assessment with as much or as little material information as you find practical and update the version information as you add details or make changes.

​​The individual raw material risk assessments which evaluate material purchased from a particular supplier feed into site-wide controls.

​​The approved list of raw materials for purchasing is generated based on the supply routes being ‘active’ status and the manufacturers reflect the active version of the risk assessment for the supply route in each case. The raw material approved list is itself document controlled and superseded versions are listed in the revision history.

Connect with your suppliers

You can link the product specification provided by your supplier into your raw material risk assessment, and risk assessment information will populate into your risk assessment directly from the supplier’s product specification without the need for any further data entry or administration.

​​For supply routes whose risk assessments are linked to the supplier’s specification, the information will be viewable in the same areas of the risk assessment, but it will not be editable and a notice at the bottom of the page will explain that the information reflects the current version of the supplier’s product specification.
